what does it mean to be sustainable?

…what is a sustainable business model?

…what steps do we need to take to get there?

These are important questions that require #clarity to achieve sustainable practices.

It means taking the time to understand sustainability’s complex issues and developing a plan of action that everyone can support.

It also requires commitment from everyone involved.

George Harding at ‘Forum For The Future’ simplified it into 3 simple statements:

Clarity #1: First, it must be “commercially successful” – why is this proposition valuable to the customer and how can you deliver at a profit from it?

Clarity #2: Second, a sustainable business model is “future ready”. For instance, it will succeed in a world of rising, volatile energy and commodity prices.

Clarity #3: Third, it must be “part of a sustainable society”. It is not possible to be a sustainable business in an unsustainable economy.

A sustainable business model is what every business leader hopes to achieve: that the business will turn a profit quickly and stay afloat for the long term.

And to add – a sustainable business model is one that generates value for everyone involved without being a drain on the resources that help create it.

Clarity is indeed the key to sustainability!
