It was a quiet afternoon when I found myself standing in front of a striking bronze statue called ‘Chandela Rider’.
The rider, with strength and grace, commanded attention, but what truly drew me in that day was the gentle ripple of water beneath the statue, and the lush, round large leaves of lotus plants floating in the pond.
As I stood admiring the scene, the soft rustling of the garden’s caretaker drew my attention. The gardener, an elderly man with kind eyes, approached, carrying tools of his trade, but his demeanor was that of a philosopher.
Seeing my interest in the lotus leaves, he offered a knowing smile. “You like the statue,” he said, “but have you ever wondered about the life of these lotus leaves? They have their own lessons to teach”, he said in a low tone.
Intrigued, I gestured for him to continue, and what followed was an unexpected and unforgettable conversation, one that revealed 2 profound qualities of the lotus leaves, the lotus flower, and their magical existence.
Lesson 1: Resilience in Murky Waters
The gardener began, “The lotus and its leaves show us that no matter how difficult or murky the conditions around us, we can still remain untouched, pure. We are not defined by our environment but by our inner strength.”
This lesson hit home. The challenges we face—be it in our work or personal life—don’t have to stain our core. Like the lotus, we can rise above, maintaining our clarity and purpose.
Lesson 2: Adaptability to Circumstances
The gardener leaned closer to the water, brushing his hand lightly across a lotus leaf. “Watch how they float,” he said. “These leaves adapt to the movement of the water, bending but never breaking. Whether the pond is calm or in turmoil, they remain afloat.”
The lotus leaves’ ability to go with the flow while maintaining their balance was a reminder that adaptability is key. We must learn to navigate the unpredictability of life with grace, bending when necessary but never losing ourselves in the process.
The Gardener’s Parting Words shook me beyond comprehension. I left the garden that day not only admiring the statue but carrying with me the gentle wisdom of the lotus leaves—a reminder that in the simplest forms of nature, we find the deepest lessons of life.
And of course the gleaming eyes of the Gardner!!!!
