“Chander, my team can perform better and do 20% to 30% more” said a BU head of a large automobile sector organization.
He looked concerned and wanted to do something about it.
“What is the missing piece” asked me this BU head.
My answer to his question was 2 questions.
a. “Are they performing to their Optimal best”?
b. “Have you unlocked their potential”?
“How do I do that” ?… asked this curious leader; almost pushing me to give a solution.
Here is something I shared with him :
1. Recognize your employees for their performance
2. Find their strengths and weakness ( improvement areas )
3. Provide regular and constructive feedback to them
4. Help them develop professionally; work on their growth
5. Plan more solutions around their productivity
6. Manage, show and create opportunities for them
7. Celebrate their success and failures
8. Be with them at every stage of work
9. Trust them – 100%
10. Work towards the bigger picture with them
And while you do the above ensure that you lead them well, discover what motivates them, provide feed-forward and encourage them to step out of their comfort zone.
